Fees & Costs
Here is what we charge for our services. Your written fee agreement will set out every term before we begin, and federal rules require that we also file it with VA.
No attorney's fees for an initial claim
While our focus is primarily on appeals, we are happy to help you file your initial claim for free. You may still need to pay providers directly for things like copies of your medical records.
For appeals, you pay 20% of your back pay, only if we win
If VA denies your claim or rates it too low, we can help you challenge that decision, for example through a Higher-Level Review, a Supplemental Claim, or an appeal to the Board of Veterans' Appeals.
- Our fee is 20% of the past-due benefits (back pay) VA awards as a result of the appeal. It is not taken from your future monthly payments.
- If you don't win, you owe no attorney's fee.
- VA usually pays our fee directly out of your back pay, so you don't have to pay us yourself.
Case expenses for VA appeals
On an appeal, you are also responsible for case expenses, whether or not you win. These are out-of-pocket costs for your case, such as:
- copies of medical records or other documents from outside sources
- an expert medical opinion
VA does not pay expenses out of your back pay, so we bill them to you as your fee agreement explains.
